RIP: A Halloween Short (2022)
“RIP” tells the story of a lonely zombie finding love during the most romantic time of the year for any monster, Halloween.
This was an unorthodox DIY project I put together just a few months after graduating college. I had a little extra time before starting my job at Nebraska Public Media, and I was itching to make something. So I wrote the script, shot it on my iPhone, and played all the characters myself. Then I edited the footage, added some scrappy visual effects, wrote and recorded the ending song, and uploaded it to YouTube. The whole process took about a week, and it got me out of a post-graduation creative slump.
Human Error (2022)
Through a series of bizarre domestic simulations, young scientist Stella earnestly attempts to connect with her AI creation, a hyper-realistic humanoid robot. But when she finally makes a breakthrough, it's accompanied by the discovery of a terrible secret.
“Human Error” was my senior capstone project in college and a labor of love by myself and my classmates. I wrote the script and directed the project, my friend Mitchell Guynan was the director of photography, and my friend Annie Wang was the production designer and editor.
We went on to have a successful film festival run, which included showings at Gen Con in Indianapolis, the Brooklyn Sci-Fi Film Festival, Shockfest Film Festival, and more. We even won Best Student Film at ARFF Barcelona!
For Your Eyes Only (2021)
For Your Eyes Only is a coming-of-age screenplay about a 12-year-old girl navigating toxic friendships, undiagnosed ADHD, and her sexuality, without having the words to describe what she is going through.
This feature screenplay was inspired by a story that I wrote at 12. When I rediscovered the story as an adult, I was amused and shocked to see the strange way I had attempted to tackle these issues before I even knew what they were in the first place. There was truth to be found in my naivety, and I wanted to capture that feeling with the perspective I have now as an adult.
Me, around the same age as the protagonists of For Your Eyes Only.
